Got my first tattoo, a purple carnation, May 3rd 2015

I knew I wanted a tattoo for my mom since I was 15 years old. At first I wanted her initials, but decided it would be a too simple concept. So I started looking at symbols of January, her birth month. And I found out that not only are carnations the flower for January, they are also the flower of Mother's Day.
It's purple because that's her favorite color, but I also looked into the language of flowers for the meaning behind purple carnations. In French cultures, they represent mourning and are a common funeral flower, which ties in with when I lost my step dad, who was the love of mom's life.

Kudos to the wonderful for designing this masterpiece that will stay on my shoulder for the rest of my life
